A long day travelling from Pretoria with my sister Thea, her husband Bert and two new friends, Rene and Elmarie Mulder to my other sister, Hester and Sarel Haasbroek’s farm near Lykso in the Northern Cape. A good braai, night’s rest and breakfast was followed up by a tripon the back of a bakkie to look at the cattle. I picked up a couple of lifers along the way.

We left the Haasbroek Farm at midday, stopped at the Kathu Golf Club to see the magnificent Camel Thorn forest around which the course was built, and ended up on a 70 km dirt road that rattled your teeth, arriving with enough light left to braai and make enemies with the vervet monkeys in the camp. A great campsite with three chalets sharing a kitchen and braai area under a Camel Thorn. The next day we spent climbing the hot, dunes, and in a great bird hide.
